How does a young man get started in the music business?

In Clancy’s case, his Grandma Betty started singing with him in the car. When he was five, she decided it was time to move from the car to a more public venue. Since Betty didn’t know how Clancy would feel about performing in public, she decided to offer him his first business opportunity. Clancy’s grandma offered him $20 to sing in church. Clancy told her he would have to think about it.

A few days later, Clancy had come up with a different business proposal, but not for his grandma, but for his mother. He told his mother he would sing in church if she would give him a baby brother. His mother said, “You can just keep singing for me in the kitchen.” Clancy decided the $20 was the best offer he was going to get. The following Sunday, he sang Will the Circle Be Unbroken, and he’s been singing ever since.
